Frugalista Friday Scarf Edition

Hi.
My name is Lindsay.
And I'm addicted to scarves.

They are my favorite accessory and all summer long I miss wearing them because it is just too dang hot to put anything around my neck in this Carolina humidity.  Sometimes, I can't even handle a necklace sticking to me.

So, once the average high hits 80, all scarves come loose and you could just about see me in one every single day of the week.  I won't apologize.  I'm not ashamed.

I love accessories, particularly scarves, but dang can they be expensive!?  Seriously, I don't pay more than $20 for a shirt (and that's gonna be a pretty nice shirt)...what makes you think I would pay that much for a scarf?!  Call me cheap, call me what you will, but I can't/won't do it.

Rather than blow my shopping budget on pricey scarves, I've just gone ahead and purchased some fabric and made them myself.  It's so much cheaper!  And I can make sure I get whatever color or pattern I want.  Winning!

 I'm just going to go ahead and say it.  These pictures are taken after church, a meeting, a Costco run, and a Costco unload.  Excuse the wrinkled/disheveled appearance.  Do I say that a lot?  Sorry.

 When I saw this grey patterned knit at the fabric store, I couldn't stop touching it and carried it around for what felt like an hour before I finally saddled up to the checkout and had them cut me a yard.  I love it.  No regrets.

So let's go over the damage:

Shirt: Target $12.58

Shoes: Gap Outlet $6.99

Outfit Total: $33.27

The Rule Breaker

Here it is, folks!  The Rule Breaking outfit.  

Yesterday I wrote a post about my second round of shopping my closet where I styled this blouse with articles of clothing creating new "teacher attire" to wear to work.  I confessed that I had only worn the blouse with denim, but I just couldn't stop myself from putting this outfit together.  So, rather than break my rules which I'm allowed to break since they are my rules anyway, I decided to share this outfit with you today.  I just can't help it! #sorrynotsorry...again

Like I said, this blouse just begs to be paired with a great denim so I just did what naturally needed to happen and went ahead and put on my Joes trouser jeans.  The high waist, the wide leg, the deep hue...it was a match made in fashion heaven.  Right?  Right.

Let's be real, the blazer is a formality.  Technically, I could wear this outfit to work and feel really good about myself with that blazer on.  This year, our principal stated, "I am not going to be the jean police.  Please, just look like you're the adult in the room."

Ummmm...I took that to mean I can wear jeans as long as I look like an adult in them.  In other words, business casual?  Aka, no distressed or faded denim paired with tee-shirts and hoodies.  Am I just interpreting her words for my own benefit?  Don't answer that.

I think I look like an adult in this.  Seriously, going to rock this outfit as soon as possible.  Lurve!!!!

So, after shopping my closet, I now have 3 new ways to wear this blouse and I'm pretty sure there are loads more that will be popping into my head now that I've branched out of the denim zone.  Glad I rescued this from the donate bin a while back. 

Shopping My Closet Round 2

Hi!  If you're joining me for the first time today, I've been inspired to stay away from the malls for a little while and do some shopping in my own closet for a change.  You see, I find myself wandering around stores and picking up pieces that I like and then thinking..."I have something really similar to this at home."  The end result being me walking out empty handed and it hit me, if I have all this awesome stuff hanging in my closet at home, why am I not wearing it?!

So, today I decided to use this great houndstooth graphic blouse as my remixable piece from my wardrobe.  I bought this blouse for less than $10 at Gap last year after losing some weight.  I absolutely adored it, but sadly, only found myself wearing it with denim.  So my goal was to find ways to incorporate this blouse into teacher attire.  Let's see how I did:

Blouse: Gap (old), Pants: Old Navy (altered), Shoes: Old Navy (old), Glasses: GlassesUSA

 I just love this shirt!  It's got a billow-y, feminine cut, with a more masculine graphic design making it very versatile.  Much more versatile than I gave it credit for.  I decided to pair it with a pair of maroon skinnies that I also struggle to style.  Don't ask me why. 

 Now that I see this blouse with these pants, I seriously question why I never saw this happening before.  These look great together and they are so not complicated.  Do you ever feel like sometimes you over-complicate the items in your closet?  I do that and then I end up missing out on these great pairings because I get it stuck in my head that an article of clothing can only be worn a certain way.

 This is probably my favorite look with this blouse.  I made this skirt over the summer and have just been dying to wear it and now that fall has rolled in, I've been wearing it out.  #sorrynotsorry

 I feel like this is just such a simple, fun, still professional way of styling it.  I love how the belt gives me a waist and the mustard skirt is a pop of color against the blouses' neutrals.  For these shoes, I die.  Seriously, I look for any reason/way to wear them.  I got them at Wilson's Leather years ago for an extreme sale at less than $20 and absolutely adore the color.

 Had to share this as my hubby caught me mid-laugh.  He cracks me up sometimes.  Love him.

So, I also have another outfit that I put together with this blouse, but it broke a few of my "closet shopping" rules so I'm going to share it tomorrow.  I'm allowed to break the rules because I'm the one that made them.  Ha!
