Beauty

"Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.  You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God." 1Peter 3:3-4

Sometimes I need to be reminded of what truly defines beauty and what really matters in life.
Sometimes I find myself caught up in what I want and what others have, making me feel as though I need to go out and spend money, buy new things, and have a fuller closet.
Dress: Belk(old), Tank: JCPenney, Necklace: Silpada (here), Earrings: Walmart, Shoes: Target clearance (can't find online)
And then, out of nowhere it hits me.
What I put on my body does not really make a difference.
It is what I invest on my insides that matters.

I should focus more time and energy preparing my heart
than I do stocking my closet, primping my hair, and doing my makeup.

I do think that its necessary to take pride in my appearance.
After all, no one will want to hear my heart if they can't stand to look at me.
But, I also realize that there is more to me than my clothes.
I pray others see that, too.

For instance,

This blurry image...
It normally wouldn't be shared on this blog.
I would have deleted it off my camera and never thought of it again,
but what if everyone we came into contact with was blurry.

And we had to get them "into focus" in order to get to know them.
Would you take the time to hear their heart and discover their beauty?

Divine Intervention

Our cake was an interpretation of the Mad Men wedding cake.  The topper is a set a vintage salt and pepper shakers I stumbled upon.  When I found them I thought they were perfect.

Since, I started blogging seriously about 2 years into my marriage, I never really shared the deets of my wedding, my hubby, and how we met.  It's funny, how God grows two people in entirely different environments in families that would have never met had two people not fallen in love.

I grew up in upstate New York.  My parents are amazing; you hear me say that over and over because its true.  I have a younger brother.  We spent most of our time playing sports, camping, and riding our bikes.  My husband grew up in North Carolina.  His parents are also amazing; they have taken me in as a daughter and love me so much.  He has siblings that are much older than him and had already moved out of the home by the time he was born.  He spent much of his time playing sports, playing with his cousins, and golfing.

I went to college in Pennsylvania at Juniata College.  Upon graduating a year early with my degree in elementary education, I randomly decided to move to NC for a job.  Literally, I was standing at a job fair and called my parents and said, "I think I might move to North Carolina."  To which they responded, "Okay.  If that's what you want to do, we support you."

So, at the age of 21, I descended to NC and started my teaching career at a middle school.  I met my husband about two years after moving through mutual friends.  Really it was by chance; we weren't set up.  So, we started dating and the rest is history...

Often times, I think back to what my life would have been like had I gone to a different school, gotten a job at a different place, lived in a different apartment complex, or not gone out to dinner that night I met my man.  It's amazing how God makes things happen.  How a girl from the mountains of upstate NY ends up with a boy from Chatham County NC.

We dated for a little over a year before he proposed.
We were engaged for almost a year and a half before our big day.  We decided to get married in Greensboro, NC even though it is tradition to get married in the bride's hometown because it would be easier on us not having to travel back and forth to NY for planning.

Not to mention, we have grown to make many friends in our church here and wanted our preacher to marry us. My mother was still able to be a big part of all the special details.  She was with me when I found my dress and she helped me pick details such as flowers, hair piece, and shoes.
Our wedding had a slight vintage feel to it.  The ceremony and reception took place at Revolution Mill Studios in Greensboro.  When we walked in for the first time, we both knew it was the perfect place for our special day.
Our ceremony was short and simple.  One of my girlfriends sang "At Last" by Etta James as I walked down the aisle with my daddy. Another girlfriend read a beautiful poem that hangs in our bedroom (it hung there before I was in the picture, too.)
It was a special day.  The best so far.  I've already proposed we go to Vegas for our 5 year anniversary and do it all over again at a drive-thru chapel with Elvis.  Doesn't that just sound fun?

Arrrrggggghhhh!!!

Aarrrrrgggghhhh!!!

This weekend is the official kick-off of ECU Football.
Before meeting my hubs, I really didn't know a thing about football.
I went to a tiny highschool; so tiny we didn't have a football team.
I went to a small college, where the volleyball team was the claim to fame.
So, I didn't know the rules or anything!

He taught me everything I need to know about tailgating in the south, no quarter, and Pirates!
